Absence makes the heart grow...

Well, I wanted to type "bitter", but I didn't.  The long and short of it is that when you are away, you are missed!  You may think that your presence does not make a difference in a choir the size of ours.  But it does!  It REALLY does.

Choir is a HUGE commitment.  We all know it.  Many of us have lived it for many years.  The challenge is to always keep your commitment to choir fresh and new and to never let one iota of complacency creep into your "choir life".  You hear me say sometimes "WELL, Jesus died a cruel death on the cross for you!"  I often say this with my tongue in my cheek; however, when we remember the fact that that ultimate sacrifice was made for US, it makes it easy to show up, work hard and sing our praise!

With all of that said, I look forward to seeing EVERYONE on Thursday night!  I also implore you to sign out (with the choir room slightly under construction, the sign-out sheet hasn't been hung on the board yet, but it IS on the counter at the front of the room).  When I look at the sign-out sheet and see only one person's name marked as being away, I expect 73 others to BE HERE!

See you Thursday!

Have you noticed all of the information down there in that box labeled "Items of Interest".  There is a WEALTH of information there for YOU.  There is a schedule of events, a Chamber Group schedule, a list of PUMCC Officers, a complete schedule of Music for Worship for this Fall and a Chamber Recital Series Schedule.  Please take a moment to view these documents, or even to print them out and use them!

Now that Labor Day is past and gone, I hope that I'll be seeing you REGULARLY at rehearsals.  We have a great deal of work to do, and the only way we can accomplish our work is TOGETHER!

See you Thursday!

Metropolitan Music Ministries Event

On September 26, we will participate in the Metropolitan Music Ministries Annual Celebration Service of Sacred Music.  This event takes place at Providence Baptist Church, and is a wonderful opportunity to sing with other choirs from our larger community.  Please find some important details about this event below:

4:00--We are to arrive at Providence Baptist
We report to the right side gallery (when facing the Chancel).
4:15--Ready to rehearse with combined choirs
You will need to have your robe and your black folder
         loaded with the following pieces:

                 1189  "What Can Separate Us"
                 1295  "O Zion Haste"
"The King of Love My Shepherd Is"

5:15--Light supper.
At some point, we will have time to rehearse the piece
         that only we sing.

6:00--Processional Begins
The service will be over sometime around 3:00 the next day.
NO, really... the service lasts just over an hour.

You will CERTAINLY receive more details at rehearsals, but this is a reference that you can look at whenever you need!

See you Thursday!

A new (choir) year is here!

WELL, the summer is over, and it is time for us to get back in the saddle.  Our Bonclarken retreat was tremendous, and we accomplished a great deal.  Now, we jump into the weekly in and out of preparing for worship leadership.

Please note updates on this page.  The calendar is updated, documents about worship and worship leadership are updated, it is all here to help keep us all on the same page, as it were.

I hope that you will renew YOUR commitment to be in your place every Thursday and Sunday, as I renew my commitment to keep this vital tool of our music ministry updated as much as possible (and necessary!).

See you Thursday!

Tour Information Posted

Please notice the Spring Tour section in the sidebar to the right of this post.  There is some initial information there regarding our tour, and there will be more detailed information to come.  Keep watch!

The Coming Weeks...

We are deep in the throes of Lent now, and the coming weeks will be filled with excitement as we progress toward Easter.  Here are a few reminders of what is coming our way:

THIS WEEKEND--Daylight Savings Time
That's right, we spring forward this Saturday! Don't forget! It strikes fear in the hearts of choir members all around as we worry whether or not choir members will be present... or an hour late.

Palm Sunday, March 28
Full Chancel Choir at BOTH services of worship.  We'll begin the morning with our 8:00 rehearsal.  Choir I will provide a lovely brunch between the services.

Easter Day, April 4
Full Chancel Choir at BOTH services of worship.  We'll begin the morning with a 7:30 rehearsal with brass and tympani.  Choir II will provide our lovely brunch for Easter.  Of course, if others want to help, that's fine, as we'll have Carolina Brass to feed as well.

April 11 will be back to normal, with Chamber I singing at the 8:30 service.

April 18, April 25, and May 2 will all be days off for the Chancel Choir!!!
We WILL have regular rehearsals during this time!

April 15-18
Members of the Chancel Choir will be on tour in Washington, DC.

Saturday, April 24
Dress rehearsal for the Mozart will take place from 9:30 to noon.

Sunday, April 25, 7:00 in the evening (6:15 call)
Chancel Choir will performing Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem with orchestra.

Of course, you could see all of this information below in the calendar; but it never hurts to be reminded!

-If you are going on the Washington DC trip, your final installment of $250 is due by Sunday.

-We are collecting (uneaten) snacks for our troops.  Carol Bell has placed a collection bucket in  the music area.  Please bring items by March 7.
